The Power Of Forgiveness
Erika Kirk’s public granting of forgiveness to her husband’s killer caught the nation’s attention. It was a beautiful display of the Gospel and reminded me of something I witnessed a few years ago that brought me to tears.

What You Believe
When I was in college, a friend of mine was working the night shift at a small gas station/convenience store by himself. At around 1 a.m., a man came in wearing a ski mask and holding a gun, demanding that he open the cash register. My friend, whose name was Jim, thought it was me playing a prank. So he started laughing and said, “Yeah right, Scott. Take the ski mask off.”

Murder Of Charlie Kirk
I spoke with a young woman in our church who rode the bus to school with Charlie Kirk every morning. She’s not the only one in our church who knew him personally.
I think all of us were shocked at the atrocity of his assassination. I was at the airport and about to board the flight home when news came that he had been shot. People all over the airport were talking about it. Someone showed me a video of him being hit, and it was something I wish I could unsee. It wasn’t until

The Vulture, The Bat, and The Bee
If you put a vulture in a 6’x8’ pen that is open on top, the bird—despite its ability to fly—would be a prisoner. Vultures learn to fly by running 10 to 12 feet and lifting off. They are fully capable of taking off in a short span, they just don’t know it.

Blinding Eyes
My grandpa was in Africa as a volunteer carpenter for a Lutheran mission. He went because he loved to hunt, and it was his dream to hunt big game in Kenya. One day on a hunt, he walked by a tree with a spitting cobra in it, lying in wait for prey. These cobras attack by spitting venom into the eyes of their potential prey to blind them.

Drinking From A Shadow
Several years ago, a video went viral. Someone captured their dog trying to drink the shadow of running water on a brick wall. You can see the freeze frame from that video here.
I chuckled along with millions of other viewers while watching what this dog kept trying to do.

Why Raise Hands?
I thought it was odd. “They are just trying to get attention…wanting to be noticed for being super spiritual."
I was saved in a church where the format was less formal, but nobody ever raised their hands during worship or dared to show any emotion.

Not That Great At The Top
Climbing Mount Everest has a fascinating history. Until the mid-1990s, one-quarter of all people who attempted to reach the summit died in the process. Two years ago was the deadliest year for those making the attempt.

Out With The Old; In With The New
I felt a tinge of anxiety sitting on my patio when the garbage truck showed up. I’m not a hoarder or even a pack rat, but I admit I have trouble throwing some things away. I tend to think, “But what if I end up needing this?” I often end up keeping things that I can’t find when I do need them, because I keep too many things that I rarely use.

What We’re Here For
This is the EAA AirVenture week. For most of you, that means nothing. But for aviation enthusiasts, it’s the largest gathering of pilots, airplanes, and general aviation vendors in the world. All in little Oshkosh, Wisconsin. About 700,000 people and over 10,000 aircraft will have flooded airport grounds by the week’s end. Many pilots from around the country flew their airplanes in and are camping under the wing of the airplane. During this week, OSH is the busiest airport in

Death Of A Hero
He didn’t know me. We met once, but he wouldn’t have remembered. But I remembered because he was one of my heroes. I thought highly of his teaching and his ministry. He once spoke at our church…but that was before I was here. His dad, Jack MacArthur, was the pastor of Des Plaines Bible Church back in the late 70s and he brought in John, who was already a well-known radio preacher at the time.
While John MacArthur didn’t know me, I thought of him as a mentor.

How Could God Do This?
The Camp Mystic tragedy in Texas is heartbreaking. I can’t imagine what the parents of the lost girls are going through. On top of that, you hear of first responders hearing cries and screams from children they were not able to reach and save.
