You have a lens through which you see everything. It was probably shaped, in part, by your family during your formative years. Your schools and teachers helped shape it, too. TV shows, movies, and music have all influenced how you view the world.

Reformation Day is right around the corner. It falls on October 31, the eve of All Saints’ Day, or All Hallows’ Eve—Halloween. Tradition holds that Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of Wittenberg’s Castle Church on October 31, 1517, knowing people would gather there for the approaching holiday.

My son lives in New Orleans, where a large oak tree in his front yard has been causing a problem. Some of its roots have grown underneath their walkway, pushing the concrete up and creating quite an unsightly tripping hazard.

There are a lot of Christians who say, “No.” And there was a time when I agreed. I had heard their arguments…Halloween was the devil’s holiday, it celebrates demons, and it’s entirely of pagan origin.

I had a friend whose wife cheated on him multiple times. He tried keeping the marriage together as long as he could, but in the end, he could not tolerate the ongoing sin and ended the marriage.

My youngest granddaughter, River, is almost two. The other day, she brought her mom’s phone to her and asked, “Papa?” So Erica FaceTimed me and gave the phone to her. I answered, and we talked for a bit (though River’s talk was mostly gibberish). When I hung up and my face disappeared from the screen, she got upset.

I had a shooting pain down my arm. I tried a lot of things. I bought an elastic band that was supposed to make it feel better. I used analgesic. My wife would massage my hand, forearm, and elbow, where the pain was the strongest. I tried sleeping differently so I would no longer sleep on it, thinking that might be what it was. After months with no relief, I went to the doctor.

I’m slow in using the term “revival.” I didn’t jump on the Asbury bandwagon a couple of years ago, and my response to those who asked was, “Well, a real revival is a rise to consistency. Whether or not this is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit will be evident by the number of lives changed over the long haul. When revival happens, church attendance surges, as do conversions to Christ.” Did that happen at Asbury in 2023?

“If you are going through hell, keep going.” ― Winston S. Churchill A bunch of our Bridge brothers and sisters are feeling that now. And I’m not just talking about the marathon they are running. Some of you are facing major upheaval in your life.

I first traveled by the Badlands and saw part of them from the highway in my early 20s. Linda and I later took our kids there a couple of times in our family western adventures. The kids loved climbing the rocky cliffs, with Linda calling up at them, “Don’t go so high!” They did anyway. But seeing the Badlands from the air is entirely different from wandering around in them or driving through.

Most Christians I know struggle with how to share their faith. I have something for you that will revolutionize your opportunities to show that Christ is real in your life.

On a local TV talk show program, a paramedic was asked, “What was your most unusual and challenging 911 call?”

Some have misunderstood our church’s apolitical involvement as, “politics is not important.” That’s not true. Politics is important. It’s just not the church’s mission.

One word…GRATITUDE.

Carlos met Nicole at a local hangout at the University of Calgary and they hit it off. He asked for her number and she gave it to him. But he wrote it down wrong, so when he tried to call her later that evening, the number was rejected. He was heartbroken. But Carlos wouldn’t give up. He pulled up his school directory and emailed every Nicole he could find (247 of them) in a mass email, with the subject line, “Nicole from last night.”

I get it. You need a change of scenery. Maybe a move across town…or better yet, to a different state. Maybe it’s time for a job change. You just know that it’s time for change.

I’m getting a lot of questions about what is happening in Israel. The fighting in the Middle East has been going on for thousands of years, and the problem will not be solved until Jesus ends it with His return.

A friend once asked me, “If a man speaks in the middle of the woods and his wife is not around to hear him, is he still wrong?"
